Trying to see the glass half full

I will admit to feeling a bit down in the dumps yesterday. But as a good friend should Josh said straight up “Deb, you should be thankful for what you have. Think of all the positives in your life.”  So, that brought to mind another quote in “An Unquiet Mind” by Kay Redfield Jameson.

“We all build internal sea walls to keep at bay the sadnesses of life and the often overwhelming forces within our minds. In whatever way we do this — through love, work, family, friends, denial, alcohol, drugs, or medication, we build these walls, stone by stone, over a lifetime.”

My internal sea walls are built through medication and love for my family and friends. I’m thankful I don’t need the artificial crutch of alcohol or drugs to help deal with the forces. But I know exactly what she is talking about. The sadness of regrets past is sometimes overwhelming. But you just have to pick yourself up, say enough of this, think ahead, not back, and think to the future.

So, ahead to the future. Tomorrow is my eldest daughter’s graduation from high school. Wonderful day for all of us. Really looking forward to seeing that ceremony and getting to share it with family. She’s worked so hard for this moment.  Graduating with honours, as well! So proud of her.

Happy days ahead, right? Think positive, happy thoughts and good feelings will ensue.
